For this week’s edition of Inventor Spotlight, we talked to the gifted 3D creator, 3DExtrusion. He spoke about his creative process and what inspires him to create in 3D, and his current projects.

WHO IS 3DEXTRUSION?

3DExtrusion is a 3D creator from Italy, who started his journey two years ago. He is a maker, designer, and student, who believes in 3D printing’s “power to make everything.”

WHERE DOES 3DEXTRUSION GET HIS INSPIRATION FROM?

He gets inspiration from random moments, places, and things, like the shower. He gets new ideas every day, some of which he works on, while some never see completion. Currently, he is buying pieces to build his own budget mini 3D printer. He is a Mechanical Engineering student at a university.

3DExtrusion loves the world of makers in general, such as Arduino Projects, Raspberry, 3d Printing. He is drawn to the technical aspects of 3d printing, along with his 3D printing projects. Therefore, he designs his models from scratch, like vases, mechanical parts, improvements for his printer, etc. He shares his creations on Instagram, MyMiniFactory, and Cults 3D. He likes to see how people print his models and finds them satisfying.

ADVICE FOR PEOPLE GETTING INVOLVED WITH 3D PRINTING?

For people starting with 3D printing, 3DExtrusion’s advice is to learn about how the printer works, how to improve print quality, etc. This way, they will be able to resolve any issues that might arise. He also shared his experience of getting his work ripped off. He said:

“I would also like to tell how frustrating it can be when someone uses your idea for their own profit. It happened to me with a little keychain of a famous film in Italy, called ‘tre uomini e una gamba.’ I had designed it myself a year ago. A page copied it and started selling the object, obviously without my permission, reaching a lot of people.”

He concluded by saying that makers should respect the intellectual property of others and not steal or even use the work of others without permission.
