For this week’s edition of Inventor Spotlight, we talked to the founder of the extraordinary 3D designers, Miniworld3D. We asked him about the inspiration behind Miniworld3D, and his advice for people getting started with 3D printing.
WHAT IS MINIWORLD3D?
Miniworld3D is a group of 28+ designers, founded by Dany Sánchez. Dany is an award-winning Mexican Industrial Designer and a Certified SolidWorks Professional. Miniworld3D specializes in the creation of detailed 3D models of landmarks & famous buildings of the world. These models are designed from scratch, specifically for 3D printing using parametric software. It ensures the printability of these designs.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND MINIWORLD3D?
For Dany, inspiration came in many forms. He was an industrial designer and learned parametric 3D modeling. Dany said that he had to continue designing models to keep his skill sharp. It also aligned with his love for traveling and experiencing different cultures. Dany has visited many countries, and 3d modeling their landmarks felt like a great souvenir.
He was also motivated by the fact that 3D printed landmarks would be an excellent way for the blind and visually impaired to “travel.” It would allow them to experience something that would otherwise be impossible. It was also important for him, as there wasn’t a single, high quality, consolidated collection of landmarks of the world available when he started. Dany concluded by saying, “We are very happy and proud to contribute to global knowledge and education in an open and free way!”.
ADVICE FOR THE BEGINNERS?
“Trust online resources like videos and guides, that will truly save you time and headaches. When I started back in 2012, there was virtually no collective knowledge base for 3d printing- there is now”
