Following the ending of the show, Fans and critics have demanded a remake of the final season. From online petitions to fan fictions depicting more realistic and appropriate conclusions to the iconic show have made their rounds on the internet. In this article, we are going to ponder about Game of Thrones and 3D printing. How things could have been different in Westeros if one of the Great Houses had access to 3D printing technology.

Game of Thrones and 3D Printing

The world of Westeros is filled with mythological creatures like dragons, the Night King’s army, Children of the Forest, giants, even black magic, and witches. The applications of 3D printing are diverse. Industrial grade 3D printers can create weapons, armors, artillery, canons, catapults, and other defensive and offensive weapons that could have changed the tide of war in Game of Thrones. House Tyrell

By the time the series concluded, House Tyrell of Highgarden had lost their last living member. The Lady Olenna of House Tyrell was the final one to go, who was poisoned by Jaime Lannister. Former Lord Mace, Loras, and Queen Margaery were all killed in the wildfire blast of the Great Sept of Baelor. Owning 3D printers could have surely helped them survive. They Could have used the technology to improve their defenses and would have stood a better chance against the Lannisters after they align themselves with the house Targaryen.

House Baratheon

House Baratheon of Storm’s End was one of the Great Houses of Westeros. They ruled Westeros at the start of the series, but towards the end, there was only a sole survivor, Gendry. The most notable opposition in the series was offered by Stannis Baratheon, who declared himself the rightful King after the death of his brother Robert Baratheon. In the Battle of the Blackwater, Stannis could have printed artillery weapons mounted on his ships to target the Lannister defenses and avoided the wildfire.3D printing could also have helped him survive in The Battle of Winterfell, as he could have equipped his forces with better equipment, weapons, and armor to fight in the harsh condition.

House Greyjoy

House Greyjoy of Pyke ruled over the Iron Islands, a harsh and bleak group of isles off the west coast of Westeros. The Greyjoys stand to benefit a lot from manufacturing technology 3D printing. It would have helped them become self-sufficient and maintain their independent status. They could have also helped there the respective allies with 3D printed upgrades to the Iron Fleet. Having access to 3D printing could have helped either side win the Greyjoy Naval Battle.

House Lannister

House Lannister of Casterly Rock occupied the Iron Throne during the majority of the TV shows run. It is safe to say that their reign would not have come to an end, and they would not have suffered losses in different battles if Cersei had access to 3D printing. She would not have needed Golden Company mercenaries’ help, as fire-resistant armor, long-ranged and accurate scorpions to take down the Dragons. Any army marching towards the King’s landing would have been wiped with 3D printed weapons and equipment, whether it is the Dothraki or the armies of the North. Lannisters rule could have lasted for centuries.

House Targaryen

House Targaryen of Dragonstone was once a great house that ruled Westeros Before Robert Baratheon deposed them off and forced their living heirs into exile. Throughout the entirety of the series, the last living heir Daenerys Targaryen raises a military to reclaim the Iron Throne. Although she boasts an army of Dragons, unsullied, and Dothraki as well as countless allies throughout the last seasons, she could have avoided the losses that eventually led her to lose control and, ultimately, her life.

Not to mention, she would not have had to wait eight seasons to reach King’s Landing if she had access to 3D printing technology. She could have provided her army and fleet with lighter and more effective weapons, armor, modes of transportation, and much more. 3D printed armor for the Dragons could have helped Viserion from The Night King’s ice spear and later Rhaegal from the bolts fired by Euron Greyjoy. Among the Great Houses of Westeros, House Targaryen could have benefitted the most from owning 3D printing technology.

House Stark

By the end of the Game of Thrones series finale, House Stark of Winterfell had the most living members. However, their journey was not an easy one, and they had to sacrifice a lot to regain Winterfell. Some of the most notable and heart-wrenching moments of the series come from the demise of House Stark members. Whether it is Ned Stark’s beheading or the Red Wedding, owning 3D printers could have played a part in keeping the family safe. In The Battle at Castle Black, 3D printed weaponry could have been helpful in defeating the enemies. Jon Snow’s lover, Ygritte, could have survived the arrow, had she been wearing 3D printed armor. Battle at Hardhome and the Battle of Bastards could have been won with far fewer losses.

In the final Battle of Winterfell, countless lives would have been saved with 3D printed offensive and defensive weapons. In the end, it is safe to say that any Great House in possession of 3D printing technology could have easily conquered the Iron Throne.
